But this is precisely what happened. In village Ghana Khandi under Dehat Kotwali, he started saying Takbeer for the evening prayers in the local mosque, but he had hardly started when some locals objected to his being beardless, claiming that clean-shaven Muslims cannot say Takbeer. This led to an altercation between some of his supporters in the mosque and others which continued after the prayers and took a violent turn. Mohammad Iqbal was severely thrashed and several others got injured in the stone-throwing that ensued.
Iqbal’s seven-year-old daughter Nargis got injured in the stone-throwing and died while being taken to a local hospital in a severely bruised state.
The police intervention brought the situation under control as the miscreants fled as soon as the police arrived. Police have named Ikram, Buddhu, Nafees and Islam, etc. in the case. The injured include Auzan, Rasheed, Zareena, Shahjehan, etc. and are all admitted in the district hospital. Superintendent of Police Mr. Dileep Srivastava investigated the issue and spoke to the injured in the hospital and said that the police are trying to arrest the attackers. A tense calm prevails in the village.
